The Johanson Team was founded on November 11, 1973 at Clark Air force Base in the Republic of the Philippines when Kirk Michael Johanson was born to Captain Robert Johanson and Barbara Johanson. Little did they know then that 45 years later they would become a highly successful real estate team.
Over the years, each member of the team has traveled down different paths which have led to a career in real estate. Each brings different strengths with some overlapping. The end resulting team exemplifies Aristotle’s saying that “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”.
Both Bob and Barb received their Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University with majors in History. Bob immediately entered the United States Air Force and served his country for four years during the Vietnam era. Upon being honorable discharged, Bob began his career in sales first with Bethlehem Steel and later with Penske Truck Leasing. Upon leaving Penske, Bob and Barb started Fleet Warranty Service identifying and filing warranty claims for their customers’ large fleets of trucks. Upon moving to Palm Coast, Bob and Barb decided to look for something outside golf and settled on real estate. Bob’s strong sales background and attention to detail are a strong asset to the team.
Barb’s history major and math minor at Ohio Wesleyan led her to the teaching profession. She spent several years in the classroom before the Johanson children, Kirk and Kristin, were born. As they grew older, Barb broadened her horizons by working as a Tennis Administrator at the Wheaton Sport Center in Wheaton, IL. When Fleet Warranty Service was started, Bob identified warrantable claims and Barb filed those claims electronically with the manufacturers. All of these experiences helped Barb develop strong people and computer skills which she brings to team.
Before joining the team, Kirk had more experience in real estate and related fields than any of the other members. Kirk received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University with an economics major. After graduation, Kirk spent five years living in the Denver area where he worked in the mortgage industry. Ultimately this led to his move to Florida where he opened his own mortgage company in the Jacksonville area. After five years of running Coastline Lending during the financial crisis, Kirk took a position at Bank of America as a mortgage loan officer, continuing to work hand in hand with area realtors to help homebuyers achieve their goal of homeownership. In 2014, after 14 years on the mortgage side, Kirk decided to become a Realtor. Kirk’s extensive knowledge of the real estate industry and northeast Florida along with his strong computer skills and ability to use social media for marketing have proven to be invaluable assets as the newest member of the Johanson team.
The motto of the Johanson Team is “Let our family guide your family”. They are proud to be a family team working as part of the Watson family.
